Grappa

Grappa (pronounced Grah-pah) is a definite splurge. Grappa is located in Park City, Utah in the historic district (151 Main Street). The restaurant itself is beautiful; when my husband and I went, it looked like an old lodge that belongs in the Alps. It has a definite home-like feel, with fire places, stuffed game and plush furniture throughout the rooms. When we arrived, I remember being led up to the second floor, and seated at a table next to a window, where we had a nice view of Main Street. (A note to the wise- make reservations for this place).

Of course the menu has changed by now, but I do remember some of the items I ordered. For the appetizer, we got the Sampling of All Our Soups- $12. (I know it's steep, but this is a once-every-ten-years-dinner). My husband and I shared this appetizer- and compared to the other patrons, who were ordering individual Sampling of All Our Soups for each person, we were being mighty thrifty! The waiter brought out this long platter that held about 6 mini cups of soup in a line; all different flavors, and placed in the exact order in which you were supposed to eat them- I remember the order led you through broth-like soup to creamy soup. And each soup was distinctly different, and tasted wonderful. This is a fun eating experience, because you got a small portion of a couple of different items.

I don't remember what my husband got for his main course, but mine was something to the effect of carrot-filled ravioli and duck breast, with a side mixture of golden raisins, pomegranate seeds and nuts (is it sad or impressive that I still remember that?). Anyways, it was really good- the duck breast was moist and succulent, and the ravioli was creamy and smooth; the carrot filling had a distinct flavor, but it wasn't overpowering. And the unlikely mixture of golden raisins, pomegranate seeds, and nuts was like a dessert in and of itself.

Now I don't remember the dessert we had, so it was probably less than memorable; but hey, no restaurant is perfect. The rest of the meal was delicious, and the experience was very enjoyable. We had a great time (too bad I can't say the same for our wallets after the fact)! Would I go again? Of course- in ten years.

Yum! This place sounds delightful, I'd never heard of it. Thanks for the recommendation.
