I got this idea from a VP at Zions Bank- he said that he climbed all of the stairs in his building once in the morning, once at lunch, and once in the late afternoon. It was totally news to me, that someone had thought to walk all of the stairs in their building multiple times a day for extra exercise and to clear their head. I tried it today in my building. Here is a play-by-play of activity by floor, and some important points I learned-
Floor 1-4: feeling good; breathing pretty normal; happy to be walking around and not just sitting all day long
Floor 5-7: breathing harder, getting warm
Floor 8-11: breathing much harder, starting to sweat
Floor 12-17: breathing hard; sweating quite a bit
Floor 18-20: starting to wonder why I decided to do this at 12:15 p.m., when I still had half the day to work through- glad that I put on my workout shoes instead of keeping my heels on
Floor 21-24: Victorious! Breathing hard, sweating a lot- but felt good.
Total time: 8-ish minutes
What I learned:
1. I sweat ALOT. From now on, I will only climb the stairs right before I leave work- so I don't have to walk by attorneys who wonder why I'm breathing hard, sweating up a storm, and wearing work out shoes with my regular work clothes.
2. I will never climb those stairs in regular work shoes- heels are not made for climbin'.
3. It is a great idea to get your butt out of a chair and moving during the day- I just don't know how to do it without sweating and wanting to take a shower after.
Over all, a good experience- if you work in a building with tons of floors, I highly suggest you try it out.

wow! 24 flights. im pretty sure i've never attempted 24 flights before, you are AMAZING (:
I do this 3-4 times/day; b/c my office is in the basement and I work on the 6th floor usually. i have to go up to get work in the morning - then after break and after lunch. sometimes i forget things in my office too. stairs are a KILLER workout.
Way to go. I'm so impressed. And I love your play-by-play recount of the levels.
Good for you! I've heard of people doing this and I just don't have the get-up-and-go! Good for you!
