Air Force

My husband swore into the Air Force today- he applied for a 3-year dental school scholarship with the Air Force Medical Corp, and was awarded the scholarship a couple of months ago. The scholarship will cover 3 years of dental school, and then my husband will serve as a dentist in the Air Force for 3 years after he is done with school. Today was the official swear-in.
We went to the Charleston Air Force Base... these bases are their own little cities- they have a gas station, grocery store, gym, bowling alley, movie theater, etc. I've never been on a base before- it was very eye-opening- another introduction to a different world (on top of trying to figure out the South, and the dental industry)...

We went to the dental clinic on the base- they bought a cake for us!
My dental student before the swear-in...
During the swear-in (don't know if it was ok that I took this picture or not, but no one said anything to me, so...). This was cool- a bunch of people from the clinic came in and watched the ceremony- other dentists, people in their army regalia- and everyone stood up during this part. It was a pretty cool experience.
My husband, one of the other dental students in his class that was awarded the scholarship, and the Air Force officer (a dentist) who swore them in to the Air Force.
This logo was in the conference room we were in- it states, "oral health ensures readiness."
We also went on a tour of the dental clinic on the base. These machines are called autoclaves- you put used dental instruments in these machines, and it disinfects them.
These machines clean the dental instruments before you put them in the autoclaves.
Here are all of the dental instruments (this is not boring, this is EXCITING!!)...the dental clinic even had their own lab (many dental clinics ship their work out to companies that do just dental lab work).

Part of the group at the swear-in: recruiters, dentists, and students! Everyone was very nice and welcoming.

I hear the grocery stores on bases are cheaper than stores for us regular folks.
