My husband and I recently moved into a rental house that is closer to his school and my work. We have been LOVING it so far. One of the many benefits is having a yard. We can try planting some flowers, and try growing our first vegetable garden! Here is my husband with his second attempt at a hanging tomato plant. I hope it works this time, because we really like tomatoes!
My friend, Nicole, sent me lily bulbs for my birthday (thank you!), and I planted them this weekend. This is a picture of the site of the first lily flower bulb I have ever planted. We'll see if my work pays off!
A close up of the flower bulb in its hole..

This is what the bulb looked like, pre-planting...
Here's a view of our backyard from our back porch. So nice and shady and relaxing. Those trees are pretty- they are called River Birch trees. The only negative thing about them is that they drop twigs and branches like a Labrador retriever sheds its dog fur. It's a little out of control, but totally worth it.
Here is my husband in front of our first, official vegetable garden. Cucumbers, green peppers, red peppers, and yellow squash. We also have a hanging tomato plant. We also have these flowering bushes all over the yard (as you can see behind him in this pic)- they are so pretty!
Happy birthday to me! I had a nice and quiet birthday weekend- just what I wanted. I received a lot of well wishes from family and friends, and received some presents through the mail. Overall, a great birthday. My birthday dinner mainly consisted of crab legs (bought frozen at the store and steamed at home- SO good) and butterscotch cheesecake with fresh whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg (in the picture above).... also very good.
So, I never did a post about our Utah trip, because I really did not take a lot of pictures, and I feel plenty guilty about that, and will try to do better in the future, BUT- here are some fun pics from my husband's little brother's wedding. Above are some of my sisters in law and their little babies. These women were troopers, I'm telling you right now. This was a full day affair, and they managed their babies through all of the pictures and family festivities. Nice work, ladies (one sister in law- Kathryn- is not pictured here above, but she is definitely included in this... again, I did not take a lot of pictures, but I am doing the best I can...)
We spent some time during Christmas break getting to know the newest members of our family- little Liam...
And Miss Ila.... Mr. Trey, another one of our new nephews, is in the picture of the two mom's above- he's on the left. Also a very cute kid.
If there is an excuse to have someone else do my hair, I will take it- especially for weddings. I had my sister-in-law Cassy do my hair, and I loved it!! I wanted a cool braid on the side, and a low, messy bun. If only I knew how to do this kind of stuff to my own hair...
Such a different hairstyle, but it was fun! I really liked it!
Here's a picture of us and the happy couple.

im jealous that your azaelias are blooming! I love those big white ones in your front yard. what a fun deck! wow, i can't believe you are already planting all those veggies, you are so lucky to live in SC. Your hair looks really good up like that, i don't see it that way very often (not like i see you very often....but you know). I hope the lillies turn out!!!
Jen, better get some chicken wire and string it around your garden...in the south live a grand population of critters who love fresh veggies. Cover the outside and the top and hopefully you will get something from your garden... before the animals do.
The house and garden look great! What an awesome space. We'll have to come back. :)
I'm totally jealous of your house and garden.
