I tried quinoa last week for breakfast (with milk and Splenda brown sugar); and I'm now hooked. Quinoa (pronounced KEEN-WAH) is really healthy and delicious! A 1/2 cup cooked quinoa (1 serving) has 127 calories, 2 grams of fat, 2 grams of fiber, and 4.5 grams of protein (it also contains all 9 essential amino acids, and a plethora of minerals). Quinoa comes from the Andes Mountains in South America. It was one of the food staples for the ancient Incas (a people who lived 5,000 years ago). It has a nutty flavor and a slight crunch. You can find it in the bins section or the organic section of any grocery store. It's a nice substitute for oatmeal or cracked wheat cereal. Give it a try!
