I apologize, I have been slacking on the Utah-findings posts lately. I discovered a Utah county dance group called Vibe last weekend. They are phenomenal. The concert I went to last week was called "Move," and featured all kinds of dancing. Their website states that "Vibe is the place to come for fun and elite professional performance instruction. Classes are taught in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, tumbling, contemporary and ballroom from preschool age through adult level classes." At this concert, there was a little bit of everything mentioned above. There were even girls in toe shoes doing the hip hop and jazz dance combinations! It was a high-energy and inspiring show. My husband and I loved every minute of it.
Their next concert, "Evolutions of Dance," is coming up on January 24-31 at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo (starting at 7:30 every night). I am going with seven other family members, and I am so excited! To register, go to www.coveycenter.org/.
Other cultural events coming up (that look really interesting) include:
Pancho Sanchez & the Latin Jazz Band- Jan. 19, 7:30 p.m. , Salt Lake City Sheraton, 150 West 500 South, $25 (http://www.24tix.com/). He is described as a very influential artist in salsa music.
Soojin Ahn, Concert Pianist- Libby Gardner Concert Hall Virtuoso Series, January 22, 7:30 p.m. (to order tickets, call 581-7100). "At age three, Korean-born Soojin Ahn began playing piano and now has establihsed herself as aclassical virtuoso with unanimous critical acclaim throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, earning the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award and the title of Audience Favorite at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw."
