Bruges Waffles & Frites
http://www.brugeswaffles.com/
After two people who visited Belgium told me that I HAD to go to this place, I decided that last Saturday afternoon was a good day to venture out and try some real, authentic Belgian waffles and frites. This place is a tiny café, right next to Caputo’s Deli at 336 West Broadway (300 South) in Salt Lake City, Utah. The menu is simple- waffles and fries. Everything is made fresh and tastes AMAZING. You have your basic waffle, and then you can top it with Belgian chocolate, crème fraiche (fancy whipped cream- these guys don’t mess around), bananas, strawberries, etc. Then, there are the fries- big servings (the small is all you’ll need), and you have a huge variety of fry sauces to decide from- we tried the curry ketchup- REALLY GOOD.
Warning- you will not want to go back to regular Belgian waffles after this experience. Definitely a must for those of you who want a little slice of Europe (and can’t afford to go to Europe to get it)! Even if you can afford the trip, you’ve got to go try this place. It’s not a low carb experience, but it’s definitely worth it to try it once.
Two fun Utah foodie opportunities coming up:
1. Baskin Robbins is doing their annual 31 cent scoop night- go to any Baskin Robbins on Wednesday, April 28 from 5-10 p.m. and you can get a scoop of any of their ice creams for 31 cents. My suggestion? Go early. This is a popular promotion for Baskin Robbins, and you will be waiting for a while depending on when you go.
2. Salt Lake City Spring Dine-o-Round- April 16- May 1:
I love the Dine-o-Round. It’s an opportunity to try new places or new kinds of food for mostly reasonable prices. Lunches are $5-10, and dinners are $15-30.

Of the companies involved in this round, here is a list of my favorites, ranked in order of personal preference and determined by food quality/creativity and overall ambiance:
1. Tin Angel Café (loud at night, but food is amazing- eclectic and creative- never been disappointed here)
2. Vienna Bistro (amazing German food)
3. Star of India (Indian food is the ultimate comfort food)
4. Robin’s Nest (The Gobbler is the best sandwich on earth)
5. Martine (fancy business lunch place; would like to go for dinner sometime)
6. Red Rock Brewing Company (really amazing food- their bruschetta is delicious)
7. Caffe Molisse (good Italian- I discovered orecchiette pasta here- LOVE it)
8. Bay Leaf Cafe (Southern and Philippino food- their drinking glasses are those bottles used for canning)
Participating restaurants I haven't been to yet, but want to try:
1. Settebello
2. Eva
3. Copper Onion
